► WHY USE CUSTOM PANS AND ZOOMS?
Adding one or two customs pans or zooms to your tribute video can give it a professional touch. Pans and zooms are an easy way to turn a simple photo slide show into a full-motion tribute video.
The Pan/Zoom editor in Timeless Tributes™ lets you take a photo and rotate it, pan it (change its position on the screen) or zoom in/out on it.
*NOTE: Use pans and zooms sparingly. They can add a nice touch to your video but using them too often will give your video a busy look. Custom pans/zooms also dramatically increase the time and memory required to CREATE your tribute video.
*TIP: A popular way to use the Zoom feature is to focus in on a person in a group photo. You can also add a pan effect by moving the photo so that the person is centered on the screen.
► THE PAN & ZOOM EDITOR
To start the Pan/Zoom editor, click on the photo you would like to edit and then click on the "Customize..." button on the right of Timeless Tributes™ under "Effects". The Pan/Zoom Editor window will open displaying the photo you selected.
PAN EFFECT:
The default pan setting is zero. You can move the photo horizontally by adjusting the 'X' value. Similarly, you can move the photo vertically by adjusting the 'Y' value.
*TIP: You can also click on the photo and drag it
around to adjust its position.
ZOOM EFFECT
The zoom control will automatically be set at a percentage so that the photo fills the screen. Move the slider to the right or left to increase and decrease the zoom.
*NOTE: The amount you can zoom in/out on a photo will depend on the resolution the photo was scanned at and its dimensions. A small photo scanned at 72dpi will not be able to be zoomed in on very much and could appear grainy.
*TIP: Scan the photos that you plan to use a zoom/pan effect on at 300dpi. A larger high-resolution photo will
enhance the visual appearance of the custom effect.
ROTATE EFFECT
The default setting of the photo rotation is zero. Click and drag the bar to adjust the photo rotation. Click the button underneath the center of the bar to reset the rotation to 0.
► USING THE KEYFRAME TIMELINE
It is important to understand how to use the keyframe timeline in order to effectively use the pan, zoom and rotate effects.
The first step when using the pan/zoom editor is to add a keyframe to the timeline. Click the "Add" button and you will see a new tab on the timeline inserted at the end of the timeline (blue arrow).
*NOTE: The point in time you are editing on the timeline will be indicated by a red *.

► WHAT IS EASING AND SMOOTHING?
SMOOTHING - We highly recommend keeping the smoothing box turned on. It makes the pan-zoom more fluid.
EASING - Turning on the easing feature will slow down the pan-zoom animation. We like to use this feature but you may not; it is a matter of taste.
► ADVANCED TECHNIQUES
MULTIPLE EFFECTS - You can add multiple points to the timeline to add multiple effects to a single photo. For example, if you wanted to rotate a photo and then zoom in on it you would:
(1) Add a point on the timeline and drag it to the center of the timeline. Next, drag the rotate bar to rotate the photo.
(2) Click the Add button again to add a third point to the timeline. It will automatically be added at the end of the timeline. Click and drag the zoom bar to zoom in on the photo.
*TIP: Adjusting where the second point is on the timeline will alter the length of time taken to produce the effect. Referring to the example above, if the second point is in the center of the timeline the rotate effect and zoom effect will both take 50% of the total effect time.
PAN/ZOOM TIMING - You can adjust the time the picture pans/zooms the same as any other effect. After creating your custom effect press OK and then adjust the effect time in the main Timeless Tributes window. We recommend using longer effect times when using custom pans/zooms. |
